Martin, an African-American artist lives in up-state New York with Jeannette a successful French Writer. They live a simplistic yet idyllic life, to their neighbors they appear as the perfect romantic couple. But appearances can be deceptive. It is mid-winter, their beautiful country house is covered with snow and this picture postcard paradise is shattered by the unannounced arrival of Jeannette's daughter Sierra with her new husband, Andrew. But this is a marriage of convenience, Sierra is due an inheritance from her late grandmother that can only be accessed once she marries. The plan is for the newlyweds to stay just long enough for Sierra to get her money and then leave, but Jeannette throws a spanner into the works when she announces a wedding reception for the blushing bride.
